Title: Comparing Big Changes

Well Ember certainly wasn't expecting the phone in her room to ring so soon after she got back to the Institute. The landline was a necessary evil given her current inability to reliably carry anything like her cellphone when she traveled, but she was glad to get Cara's call and quickly agreed to meet her for some catching up. Of course, the last place she expected to be going was back to the Avengers mansion but at least she knows the way. And since she'd been invited she doesn't bother with buzzing at the gate. Instead she lets Cara know that she'll be there in no time at all and heads back at top speed.

And no time at all is indeed when the doorbell rings. Maybe ten seconds went by between hanging up the phone and arriving at the door to answer the buzzer with a brief, "Ember Reynolds here to see Cara Richardson."

"Yeah, yeah, I know." Bellows Cara to the automated system as she turns the door knob and steps outside to greet Ember. She stops in her tracks, her hands moving to cover her mouth, "E- Ember?" She asks, not sure how to handle the fact one of her best friends is now made out of pure energy. "D-does it hurt?"

***

Ember didn't bother worrying about making herself look fully normal. Cara's a friend, after all. So while the outline and form is her old 'Ember Classic' she hasn't bothered making herself look completely solid or opaque. She's glowing a bit and can be seen through with just a bit of effort. She has included the appearance of clothes in her form, however. She's not so comfortable with her new state of being for that. Her face lights up (both figuratively and literally) when Cara comes to the door, but then shakes her head. "No, it doesn't hurt anymore. That's all behind me, now." She gives Cara a visual once-over and naturally pauses at the belly. "I see I'm not the only one with stories to tell?"

***

Cara's eyes widen softly as she leaps forward to wrap her arms around Ember's neck. "I've missed you." She says and then pulls back wanting to hold onto Ember's hands while looking at her glowing eyes. "I, yes I guess we both do." Says the young mutant. "I'm glad you're okay now." Explains Cara, her amber eyes soft and warm towards Ember.

***

Ember returns the hug, boosting her mass so that there's actually something for Cara to wrap her arms around instead of through. And she's more than willing to keep hold of Cara's hands afterward as well. "And I'm glad to know that you ended up somewhere good after you left the Institute. You were already gone when I made my way back and, well… it's taken a while to get a handle on all of this." She gestures to all of herself, then gives Cara's hands a squeeze. "So you first. How'd you end up here of all places?"

***

"Well, I had talked to Captain America before I left and he said I could come stay here." She whispers with a faint smile. That's something she's never admitted to before, but she feels she can be honest with Ember. "I mostly left the school because of her." She continues, her hands ending up on her belly and patting the symbol of the fetus inside of her. "I didn't want to stay there and have people talk about me."

***

Ember grins impishly as Cara gives the Cliff's Notes version of her story. "Captain America, huh? I certainly didn't know you two kept in touch." She might not have those particular drives anymore, but she certainly remembers her past appreciation for Captain Rogers when they met briefly last year. "Yeah, he seems like the kind of guy who'd offer a roof to someone who needed it." Then she settles back a bit at the mention of why Cara left the Institute. "I'm sorry I wasn't there during all that. I was… kind of waiting to hatch." She shifts her gaze to Cara's belly and nods sadly, "Yeah. Wish I could say otherwise, but there are plenty of folks up there that would have taken this… yeah." But then she puts some enthusiasm back into her voice and holds a hand out towards the budha belly. "May I?"

***

Cara tilts her head and whispers to Ember, "You're welcome to touch me any time Ember, you know that." She says, giving a last squeeze of Ember's hands before letting go and putting her hands on her hips. "So yeah, I figured leaving was the best idea." She notes, loving that her friend as showed back up. "I'm glad you're … hatched Ember."

***

Ember grins and lays a hand on Cara's belly, her expression softening after a moment. Hey, just because she's left her flesh behind doesn't mean she isn't still just as sentimental about this sort of thing. Hearing someone else say 'hatched' causes her to laugh. "It sounds so funny thinking of it like that." She lets her hand drop back down and lays an arm across Cara's shoulders. "I don't remember anything about being inside the cocoon. Just the big fight, starting to fall from the sky thinking that it wasn't a bad way to finally die… and then I was in a basement with Loki and another guy who called himself the Sorceror Supreme." She shrugs and holds her other hand up again, shifting its glow and making it go from visible to clear and back again. "Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that I'm still alive and kicking." Her shoulders slump a bit, "But I really miss ice cream."
