Title: | Gambit's Place |
[*The Blue Moon*]
Welcome to New Orleans. From the moment you step through the doors of The Blue Moon, you are totally submerged in the ambiance of the Big Easy. Every sight, sound, taste and smell has been specifically selected to make you forget that just outside the doors exists Bayville and New England.
Stepping past the Maitre D' you are lead into the restaurant portion of the club. Up on a raised balcony you can look down over the large dance floor and the live band that performs here every night from 6 till midnight.
In the far back of the room, two large guards flank a single oak door. Known only as the Club, very few people are ever permitted past those guards. Membership is strictly invitation only, and those who are members are very tight lipped about the secrets kept beyond the door.

Its been a few days since the bar has been open. Easter is always a mood killer for many. But Monday, there are hopes that it will pick back up. Besides the special of the night is gumbo, and who doesn't love gumbo? It's a little after six and the band hasn't shown quiet yet, but that's okay. On the stage a lone figure sits playing the ivory keys. The song is slow, but not too down beat for the room.
Marie had upset one of her only friends at the school, so she wanted to get out for the evening. She took Scott's motorcycle into town, and had arranged to meet a couple people here at this restaraunt, but upon arrival she checked her phone and found that they'd cancelled on her… Great… Screw it, she's going to go in and dine by herself then. She pulled the hood of her trenchcoat up and walked toward the front door. She pulled on its handle and stepped inside. Her green eyes scanned the interior space standing just within.
Feeling the air shift, ans seeing the smoke from his cigarette float away, causes the man at the piano to look up. He doesn't stop playing, but he does call out to the figure who just walked in. "Hey there chere." the piano player says in Marie's direction. "Go 'head find yerself a good seat and welcome t' de Blue Moon. Where dreams o' de South come t' life." he says with a smile as he stops playing and stands.
The place looked closed… Marie thought before her eyes went to the piano player and he spoke out to her. This got a faint smile from her, she took a step further into the joint. "This place closed?" She went ahead and asked, her smile growing in strength for a brief moment, but he did tell her to find a seat… so she walked softly toward the naarest table and pressed her legs up against its edge while watching him. "I don't want to intrude on ya if you're lockin' up and all."
Putting out his smoke and walking away from the piano, the man hops off the stage. "Closed? We are not closed." he says as he makes his way across the floor. "In fact chere, we are quite open." he adds as he twirls his hand in the air. "De holidays just seem t' mess us up." he finishes. " 'cept Mardi Gras. We are always busy 'den." he finally finishes as he is within a foot of the woman now. "Pardo my manners, Remy LeBeau at yer service. I am the proprietor of this fair establishment." he says with a wide smile.
Marie stood there in front of the table that was surrounded by four chairs. She kept her eyes on the man as he dropped off of the stage and made his way toward her, she smiled at the sound of his voice… how couldn't you? Softly she nodded her head twice at his words then and her eyes skipped about the interior of the place. "I never been here before… Place seems real nice though. Its got a pretty authentic vice, doesn't feel all fake… themed, you know, like oem of the Aussie steakhouses that doesn't actually know a thing about Austraila." She felt like she was rambling, so she kind of cut her words off there and then stuck out her gloved right hand toward him. "Remy. I'm Anna-Marie." Her head shook softly at herself. "Marie, or, well, ya know, which ever works for ya." She flashed another smile then.
"Enchante." he says with a wink and a bow. As he comes up he looks around his place with a proud smile. "I was born in New Awlins. So when I found my way here, I thought, why not bring a bit o' home North." he says till his odd looking eyes return to her. "An' so here we are. Live music, good food and excellent company when we get hoppin'."
Marie put both of her gloved hands onto the back of one of the chairs at the table she stood beside. She listened to him and seemed rather amused by his little tale. "I guess that means we were neighbors then." She replied to him. "I was raised in Miss." Her smile returned with a little more strength behind it then. "So I guess I might have found myself a new favorite restaraunt, for when I'm in this crazy city at least." Her eyes scanned about again briefly before going to him. "So are you the own, the cook and the musician? How ever do you find the time?" She flashed him a grin.
"I cook on occasion. Dabble at 'de keys from time to time. Even sing when de ladies ask. Otherwise I go 'round an make like Bogart." his smile is wide and feels almost contagious. "But if you like gumbo, jambalaya, etouffee and shrimp creole. Den you have come to 'de right place." he snaps into the as if he almost forgot. "Which remind me, our traditional gumbo is 'de special of 'de eve. Just tell us how hot you wan' it and we will make it from tame to melt the paint off a Buick hot."
Rogue continued to stand behind the chair at the table with her hands clutching the chair's back. She seemed charmed by the man's overall disposition as well as his romantic accent. Her head nodded a pair of small times. "I would like to try that Gumbo then, Remy." She told him, adding in French. "Aussi chaud que vous aimez." Or 'As hot as you like it.'. She then pulled the chair out from under the table and stepped around it to seat herself, her trench coat remaining on her form and her hood was even still up sitting halfway back on her head, leaving her wildly-unkempt hair falling dwon her shoulders.
Tess enters from the outside, the brightness from the outside trickling in through the door until it closes on it's own. She addresses the hostess with an old-fashioned warmth and politeness. She carries a tablet in one arm, and her purse in another, carrying on with the hostess for a moment before telling the woman she is alone.
Demona has arrived.

She carries a tablet in one arm, and her purse in another, carrying on with the hostess for a moment before telling the woman she is alone.
Placing a hand over his heart he smiles. "Une femme selon mon coeur." or "A woman after my own heart." Spinning on his heels he points to the band who have finally shown and started to play. As he looks to one of the waitresses he holds up a single finger. "One gumbo, LeBeau style." he says as the waitress chuckles. As he turns away he looks towards Tess. "Welcome t' 'de Blue Moon, where 'de best part of 'de South lives. Special of 'de eve is our traditional gumbo." he says to her with a wide grin. "And if ye be needin' anyt'ing just ask fer Remy.
Marie settles down at her table and she crosses her legs at the knee. She flashed a small grin at Remy before he departed. Then the band caught her sight and she looked to them as they began their warmups. There was quite a bit about this place that did remind her of home and it was comforting, if not more than a little depressing as well. She glanced toward the arriving Tess and she figured the place would fill up pretty quickly now, for the evening crowd.
Tess stops on her way to a booth to sit on her own to nod to Remy. "Thank you sir, um…well, may I see Ms. Remy then?" she asks, blinking once. "I wanted to ask a question, and it sounds like she is the person I would need to talk to." she says.
Mona comes in from the street, pushing a hand into te pocket of her jacket that has her take from the things she fenced as well as the take from the drug dealers that she stole money from. She hasn't seen Gambit back yet, not having spent all that much time around 'home' since she got back from Ireland. The 15 year old is not normally what one would expect in such a place.
Taking a glance left and then right he was half expecting to see Belle jump out of nowhere. When it doesn't happen Remy smile grows wider. "Sadly there is no Ms or Mrs Remy. Jus' me." he says patting his chest. Though it looks like hes motioning to himself, he's actually slowing his heard from the scare from the ex showing. "How can I be o' service to you, chere?" Even though he is caught up in conversation, Remy still spies his little protoge out of the corner of his eye.
Marie glanced up as a glass of water was brought to her table and she thanked the server who brought it. Her eyes went back to the band as they were playing full-on now and her crossed-over foot started to bob to the beat of the piano.. She hadn't played in sometime and she made a note to do that. But for now, she sat and sipped at her glass of ice water.
Tess wrinkles her nose, and then smiles at Remy, "I was teasing you, or trying to." she says absently. She ahs, and then nods to Remy, "Well, I wanted to know who books your…talent?" she asks/says. She smiles "I think I would like to sing here."
Mona looks around the familiar room, nodding tot he band as she passes the, heading towards where Remy is with practiced inattention to detail, showing that she's walked the same path many many times and knows where all the furniture is. "Remy, didn't know you were back," she says tohe man, glancing at the women near him with an appreciative gaze
"Talent eh? Well I would have t' talk to 'de owner." he says before going silent. "Okay what can you offer? The general tone here is jazz an blues. But 'dere time a little up swing for dancing is welcomed." he says to the woman looking to hone her pipes. Then a voice causes him to turn and look to his 'ward' with a grin. I will return in a moment." Remy says to Tess as he moves to Mona. "Well if'n it isn' Lil Mona. Welcome home chere." he greets the girl as if he just saw her yesterday. "I be right wit you Mona. Have some business t' finish here." he says as he looks back to Tess. His eyes quickly glance towards Marie, making sure she is being taken care of.
Tess nods slowly, listening to Remy talk and watching him while/ he does. She hmms, and then nods, "Have you heard of Leigh Nash? Sixpence None the Richer…or Dido?" she asks. "I think I can manage her style, but I may be able to learn something more upbeat, if that's more in your style." she says. She pauses, and then looks to MOna herself, looking back to Remy. She smiles, "Should I go to my table for some of that gumbo then?"
"I'll be back later then," Mona says as she looks at the group, giving a slight nod towards the back, before she heads that way. Slipping into the kitchen and then to other areas.
Marie sips at the ice water at her table and she remains calmly seated there watching the band perform and enjoying the tunes that they play. This kind of music was always best when heard live.
Still smiling at Tess he motions her to a group of tables. "Go ahead and find yerself a table. And Ill make sure you get a bowl of gumbo on the house." he says as he pulls away from her. "Jesse? Another bowl o' gumbo. Take it easy and on my tab." he says to the waitress who was walking by. As he grabs the bowl of gumbo that's heading towards Marie's table. As he holds onto the bowl and napkin wrapped utensils and looks to Tess. "I will be right wit' you, chere" He says as he walks over to Marie. "Je espere que ce est a votre gout." or "I hope it is to your liking."
Tess nodus softly to Remy, "You're ever the gentlemen, Mr. Remy." she says. She pulls out a chair for herself and takes a seat slowly. She nods to Remy, and starts to set up her tablet on the table. She starts tapping at the screen with the stylus, bringing up some work.
Marie looked up as the cajun approached her table and she gave him a soft smile when he sat the order down before her. "I trust your clearly fine taste, Monsieur LeBeau." She told him, setting her glass of water back down onto the table before her as she uncrossed her legs and placed her hands onto her knees then.
"Why thank you an I hope you enjoy the fine gumbo. If'n ya need something stronger 'den water, Jesse will get it fer you." He says as he looks over to the red-headed waitress. "I will return however, t' see how you are doing." he says looking towards Tess. "But for now enjoy 'de music and 'de food." and with the the Cajun moves away and back to business.
Tess stops tapping at her screen for a moment to accept her own Gumbo and continues working on the Tablet, waiting a moment or two for the Gumbo to cool before she gets to work on it.
As Remy walks towards Tess, David, one of the waiters stops Remy half way to the table. "What? Who booked a wedding reception at a night… Oh! Stag party?" Remy does some quick thinking. "How man.. Really? 'kay." he says to David. As his gaze bounces between Tess and Marie a broad smile crosses his lips. " 'kay Davie, here is what we going to do." he says to the other man. "We comp 'de ladies their food and bottomless drinks. Move 'dem t' my private booth that way when the stag gets out o' hand, as 'dey always do, 'dey don' bother 'dem girls." Remy smiles at his plan. "Now go on. Get it done."
Gambit says, "Hi my name is Jesse." Comes a crackly voice of a young woman from beside Marie. "Because of a large party coming in, Remy has asked if you would like to sit in his private booth? He'll comp you for the rest of your evening here at Blue Moon. Mind you, you will be sharing the booth with another. But its more for your safety." The woman holds out her serving platter as if offering to carry Marie's drin and gumbo for her.

With that the young man appears in front of Tess. "Sorry ma'am we have a large group coming in, but Mr. LeBeau has offered up his private booth for you, that is if you dont mind sharing?" The man, no more then twenty years of age is polite to Tess, as he offers to move her gumbo and drink.
"Hi my name is Jesse." Comes a crackly voice of a young woman from beside Marie.
Tess reaches forward and closes her tablet even while David starts speaking to her. She nods and smiles warmly, "I don't mind sharing at all, if she does not." she says warmly. "Just show me where I need to go." she says to him.
Marie's attention was on the band and the music and her food… Thats when the voice from the young woman beside her was head. "Wha-?" she started and then looks down at the table. "Oh, shit… uh… Sure, Okay." She says then as she sits up in her chair and rises to her feet. "So uh, where's that at?" She asked the waitress.
Both David and Jesse lead the women to the booth. Still in view of the band, the booth is a spacious one. Allowing for around ten people to sit comfortably. With high backed red leather seating and a curtain to allows for a level privacy for its occupants. The table in the center is a sturdy one made from solid oak. This is defiantly as private as the come in this establishment.
As the waiters place the women on either side they both thank them for their understanding, place their bowls and drinks in front of their respected customers and walk away.
Tess moves into the booth and settles her purse down on one side and her tablet on the other, before re-arranging them to put the purse on top of the tablet. She smooths out her skirt and nods to Marie, "Hello, miss…? I'm Tess, Testarossa Vale…" she says, offering her hand tot he other woman.
Rogue slid into the booth and looked a little uneasy as she did so. she wasn't used to being treated to something as… ornate as this setting seemed to be. She looked across the table to the blonde woman and gave her a faint smile. "Marie." She replied to her. "Its nice to meet ya, if not a bit odd of an occassion." She said with a slight smile for the other. She reached out with her gloved hand to collect her glass of water and give it a much needed drink to cool her off a bit as she felt it was getting a bit war, of course, she also still had on her leather trenchcoat and her hood was still up.
"It's always nice to meet new people." Tess says with a smile. She nods, and takes another bite of her gumbo. She pauses, "Are you warm in here, with all of that on?" she asks. "Are you afraid someone will see you?"
"Thank you ladies for sharing my booth 'dis evening." Remy says as he appears from the side of the booth. "Reason bein', 'dere is a large party of rowdy boys coming in and I don' want you two t' be thought of as 'party girls' so to speak. You are my guests and such I must protect you." he says to them in his own chivalrous way. "But don' worry 'dis is 'de best seat in 'de house. Mine." he adds with a smile. "Is 'dere anything else I can ge' you? Beer? Spirit?" he pauses and grins. "Some 'shine?"
Rogue shook her head at Tess' question and she laughed just softly a bit. "Nah, not hidin' from nobody." She told her. "I just am most comfortable like this when in public." That was the best description she could give a stranger and she knew it was odd, but its better than the truth. Her eyes wnet up to Remy when he reappeared. "A whole party full of drunken guys? Sounds excitin'!" She teased him with a small grin. "I'm drivin' so I should only drink this here water… unless you got some sweat tea maybe?" She asked him then.
Vincent has arrived.
As Tess leaves Remy waves to the woman as she leaves. Then he sees a gentlemen enter. "Welcome t' 'de Blue Moon, bringin' a much needed piece o' 'de South, North. Are you wit' 'de stag party?" Remy asks as he looks behind the man.
Marie is seated at one of the far boothes, Tess was leaving it just now and this made Marie feel a little self conscious, like she caused the blonde to just get up and go. She glanced down at the food in front of her and was hard to miss, she had on her trenchcoat and her black hood was pulled up but her white bangs were dangling out of the hood….
Vincent looks up from beneath the brim of his black ball cap and shakes his head with a curious look on his face as he takes a moment to figure out what Remy's referring to. Vince then spots Marie and points to the teacher and says softly, "I'm meeting her." He then begins to walk towards the booth and slips into the spot opposite the young mutant, tapping her foot with his to make her notice his arrival. "Hey."
Marie looked up as she felt the bump to her foot and then the familiar face i nthe ballcap across from her. Her face lit up then and she reached her left hand over to take hold of his right one. "You came!" She exclaimed. "I thought I was abandoned."
Vincent's hand turns over at the wrist to rub her knuckles with his thumb, he doesn't seem to be a fan of the word abandoned, but he looks up to her green eyes with a faint smile hidden his brown orbs. "Of course I did. I got your message after I got out of the shower." Hopefully that explains what took him so long.
"I asked a couple of my friends here in the city to come, but they had something come up. Some acting gig." Marie replied to him then as she smiled a little longer and then motioned down to her bowl of gumbo. "You want some of this?" She asked. "Its really amazing, I've never been here before…" She nodded toward the distant Remy who was dealing with something. "Thats the owner. He seems like a nice fella. Said some… wedding party was comin' in so he moved me to this booth here, said its his personal booth." She said the last two words with a little flare to emphasize they're importance.
"Sorry everyone was busy." But not sorry they're not here all together, he's definitely not one for crowds that linger. He's always been most comfortable in a crowd with people constantly moving. A get together might break him. Vince looks over his shoulder back towards Remy after Marie gestures towards him. "Oh, personal booth huh?" Is all he says before he nods and answers he question. "I'll try it. What is it?" Vinny asks, spoon already in hand and lowering into the bowl.
Marie pushes the bowl of gumbo toward him then so that he doesn't dribble it. "Its traditional New Orleans gumbo. Hot, but not too hot." Of course, being from Mississippi, Marie's defiinition of what is 'too hot' might be different from those up north. "I think I may have found me a new favorite place to eat." She said to Vince with a grin.
Vince gives a gesture to the owner over his shoulder and asks, "I'm sure it's got nothing to do with the hunky owner." A bit of a tease with his best friend tonight. Vince then raises the gumbo to his lips and takes the spoon in without hesitation and Vince savors the flavors for a moment before the heat hits him and he points rapidly towards Marie's drink asking if he can have some.
Marie leaned back on the booth bench and she gave Vince a smirk then. "There's 'hunky' guys everywhere you go in this city." She replied to him. Her eyes went about the interior of the place then and she softly shrugged her shoulders. "Place just kinda reminds me of home, and the food does too. My aunt used too cook stuff like this…" She trailed off there and exhaled. "I wish I'd been smart enough to appreciate it though."
Vince notices her having semi sad thoughts and reminiscing. "But you can now at least." He says, after lifting her drink to his face and taking a couple quick swigs to douse the flames, along with his healing factor to help out. He sets it back over in front of her and then shakes his head. "That's hot." He whispers but smirks, "It's enjoyable."
Marie watches him as he eats the soup and watches his facial expression change. She starts to grin and then leans forward to give his hand a squeeze. "Ah… priceless." She said to him. "Enjoyable enough that you'll never eat it again, huh?" She asked.
"I'll down this entire bowl!" Vincent says, giving her an opening for a challenge that may never come her way again. Though he does hope that she wont accept it. "I'd eat it again, but I'm not going to take your food." Explains Vince he's not like that, as far as with people he cares about.
For the last few minutes Remy has been busy setting up the tables for the large party coming in. With a few whispers from Jesse Remy disappears into the kitchen and returns with a bowl in hand. Then he stops and grab a glass of some clear liquid from the bar he returns to the couple in the booth. "I was told you sharing over here. Well share no more. Here you go." He says sliding a full bowl of the gumbo in front of the man followed by the glass of water looking liquid. "Bon appetit."
Marie looked up as Remy returned and she saw him deliver another dish of food. "Oh!" She said, offering the owner a small grin. "Merci! Il est le plus dlicieux, Monsieur." She replied to him in her fluent French-accent.
"Thank you." Vince replies to Remy as he picks his spoon back up and takes a sip of his soup with a quick yelp as he reaches for his water and takes a large chuck before his eyes widen and he blinks several times as he sets the drink back down. He shoots Marie a look with a raised eyebrow and a not very soft whisper, "I don't think that's water." He may have actually gotten a few effects from the drink.
"What?" Marie said as she had a puzzled look befall her after seeing this reactin from Vince. She reached her gloved right hand across the table to take hold of the glass and pull it toward her. She leaned down to sniff at the contents… her face instantly scrunched. "Oh… no, thats… moonshine… Beh!" She pushed it away then and looked back toward where Remy is now… Rogue had had quite a bit of that stuff in her mid-teens, she remembered it all too well.
Remy smiles and replies in French. "Oui, ca l'est. Vieille recette de famille . Qu'il ya de mieux ." translation. "Yes it is. Old family recipe. Best there is." he answers her. As he sees the other drink and reply Remy looks "Where I'm from 'dats better 'den water. I have it 'shipped up' every so often. Mostly from my personal reserve. Don' you worry, mon ami. I will have Jesse bring you some milk." he adds and slips away.
"I- What's moonshine?" Vincent asks a bit of a slur to his words as he absentmindedly takes another drink from the glass and gives Marie the biggest goofiest smile she'll likely ever get from the mutant. "You, Marie." He pauses to take a spoonful of his gumbo, causing him to need more liquid and the only glass in front of him is quickly pulled from. "Ma-Marie- Marrria." He smiles again, "I like you."
Marie's eyes were on that of Remy as he explained this and she was about to reply when she saw Vince dare another drink of the stuff. "Oh god." She said quietly. "Vince…" She looked scared for him, because she knew what that stuff was capapble of and she wasn't sure that he did, or was ready for it… After his SECOND drink she reached her hand out and took the glass and pulled it back toward her… she switched it with her water, shoving the water glass toward Vince. "My god, I brought Scott's bike here, how am I going to get you home if you get plastered on this stuff."
There is a jingle of keys as the owner of the club again pops into view. "I want to 'pologize for intoxicating your friend." he says looking from Vince to Marie. "I 'member you saying you rode a bike here? Well don' you worry about it. It will be here when you return my car." he says as he slides the keys towards Marie. "She's 'de cherry 64' Galaxy convertible."
"I'm not plastered. -You're- plastered." Vincent says, pointing at Marie with his spoon before he decides he needs more gumbo and then quickly again decides he needs more liquid to sooth his mouth. Water this time is thankful but flavorless and causes nothing to happen, so he drinks with gusto before the heat is abated. He looks over at Remy with a soft scowl then lowers his head to look at Marie's hand. "You're nice. I'm sorry."
Marie first looked up at Remy as he spoke of his car and she saw the keys come her way. She laughed softly and shook her head. "Nah… I couldn't take your car, I mean you don't even know who I am. I could like, run a chop shop, or some'n and you wouldn't even know it." She then looked back over to Vincent and she smirked at him across the table. "Though, I'm definitely not letting you ride your own bike back to the school."
"Take my car. I keep your bike's as collateral. And if you chop her, I just get another one." Remy is confident about the return of his car. "Go on now, your friend looks like he going t' sack out here."
Vincent takes another spoonful of gumbo and smiles at Marie, "Tol' ya I'd eat it!" He says with another point towards the girl before he leans over the table and whispers again. "I don't think that first glass was water." The raven haired mutant then slips down onto his bottom in the booth and smiles again at Marie.
Marie looked up at Remy… he made a good point. Her eyes then went over to Vince who was slouching in the booth. She grabbed the keys up and then gave… Scott's key toward Remy… god that was going to bite her ASS if she didn't resolve getting that key back immediately. But she did give it to Remy and then moved over to rustle Vince out of the booth. She got him up onto his feet. "Come on, sweetness." She said to him. "Lets go find this car and get you back home."
"Yes Marie." He says, still careful not to touch her. He walks semi okay, not stumbling too much but makes it to the car without too much difficulty. "You're a good person." He explains on his way out. "Oh, gotta pay!" He says trying to get to his wallet and somehow finds a way to drop forty dollars onto a table on their way to the door.
