Title: A Friend in Need

One of these days, Ember will have to come up with a way for people to get in touch with her that works quickly. Her new state of being makes it impossible to carry anything with her, her cell phone for instance, unless she keeps herself solid. So it wasn't until after Cara managed to nod off that she thought to check her messages and nearly had a heart attack despite no longer having a heart. A short while later, after checking reports on where the wounded were taken and verifying that Big T was still there, Ember is at the hospital heading to Terrock's room. She's as solid and normal-seeming as she can make herself as she opens the door and knocks lightly on the frame. "You awake in here?"

***

Terrock was indeed awake. And inside was a police officer, a doctor and a nurse as well. Everyone at once looks to Ember. "Hello Ember." was Terrock gruff reply to her answer. All along the metal bed framming were crushed dented areas. The police officer seems about to say something before the Nurse jumps in and says to Ember "Come on come in, We had no idea Mr. Hunter had any friends or relatives. Will we give you two a moment". Boy this nurse ment buisness before she was ushering the doctor and polic officer out, past Ember, but they were defintly leaving the door open as if to keep an eye on Terrock. Though he shout out back towards them "Eh, can I get my damn talisman back already!" he grumbles

***

Seeing the full crew present, Ember pauses briefly before coming fully into the room. She gives the police officer a sidelong glance as the nurse addresses her. "Yes. I came as soon as I got the message that he'd been injured." Because she's well, herself, she splits off an invisible mirror-self to watch and listen to the trio after they've exited the room. Particularly the officer. Inside the room, she pulls up the visitor chair and settles in next to Terrock's bed, giving the crush bits a raised eyebrow. "So fill me in, T. What's all the hubbub, Bub? And why did they take your stuff?"

***

It was probably a good thing Ember made a mirror, because the talk was not so good. "Look, Doctor, I checked through the files, and I know he is not a registared mutant! And nothing about him add up. I don't even think he really a Mr. Hunter". The doctor nods and replies "Well….when he was on medication, it didn't go so well. I never seen anyone crush metal before. And all his names…well they exist, but they should be long dead. The last name..what was it….ah yes Terrock Kord Bolin can't be. That would make him 194 years old!". The nurse interupts saying "Would be of you calm down, I am sure there is a perfectly fine explanation. You know those drugs mess people heads up all the time. He was probaly just saying some relatives. Sides he is a gun shot victem__" the polic officer interupts "That had a fairly expensive looking necklace on"

Terrock ears were flickering and he seem mighty nervous. But he looks to Ember "I'm….under investigation. Espcily since the two people they found under me had their spines broken. This ain't good Ember" Looking around he keeps squirming in the bed, and it groans with his weight. They after all weren't made for a person as heavy and as large as Terrock. The room was small, but it at least had large windows. Still he didn't like the feeling of being trapped.

***

Ember decides that it's time to try something she thought of a while ago; Out in the hallway she sends another mirror-self to just outside the restroom, then in case of cameras forms an illusion of her 'twin' coming out of the bathroom and towards the 'concerned folks' in time to hear the officer's comment about the necklace. "It's a family heirloom, Officer. And I certainly hope it's being kept with my cousin's personal effects in his room." The words 'for your sake' aren't said but are heavily implied in the mirror-twin's tone.

In the room, Ember doesn't even slow down in any noticable way from splitting her attention in two places. The versions of herself are so close together it's harder to keep from mixing them than it is to keep them in contact. She nods as she listens to Terrock, "Well did you end up on them because of getting shot? Were they bad guys or just folks who were too close to things? And if you give the word, I can have us out of here without much issue. As long as no one's placed you under arrest, anyway."

***

The officer gives this twin the dead eye glare "Is that so Ms. Well Might I ask who you are, last name and first. ANd how are you related if he has no next of kin we know of? Is he having any money problems, and is he a mutant?" as if he was investigating any possible leads giving out that third degree. The doctor had his attention on the nurse "We should probably keep him over night for observation. But no more drugs….we seen what we can do when he is out of control and we don't want that again. Minimum painkillers though" The nurse nods before giving the police officer her own brand of dead eye glare which actualy make him reconsider things. She says to the Ember's Twin "Sorry about the police officer, he just being a Boor. But right now his….talisman as he call it is in a locker along with his clothes. Now Hon, if you can do me a favor would you mind giving us a few answer about Mr.Hunter, seems those drugs had a mighty nasty effect on him".

"Well…first I was shot. And then…well" he takes a deep breath "I rammed into them and begin to break their bones" mutters something about trying to kill them but quickly says " Got no healing powers or nothing…..so I eventauly just bled into unconciousness

***

"My name is Siobhan. You don't require a last name as our cousin is obviously not being held in custody and I just as obviously can't be viewed as a witness to his getting shot." The mirror-twin outside faces down the officer glare for stare. "Also, how would you know if he had any next of kin if he's been sedated and hasn't been able to provide any kind of coherent responses? And no, he is not a mutant. His current state is due to him having been caught in last year's Hydra terrorist attack in East Harlem. Chemical exposure. And since there's ongoing trial proceedings from it, I'm afraid I cannot speak in more detail about his condition without our attourney present." She turns a small smile to the nurse as she steps in. "Thank you. Is that locker in his room? If not, I must ask that they be returned to him. As I said before, the amulet is a family heirloom.

In the room, Ember looks around to see if the locker mentioned is in the room. If it is, she'll get the talisman from it and hand it over to Terrock. If not, then obviously she won't. She nods to Terrock's explanation in either case and puts her hand on top of his. "So a fog of war kind of thing? At least you're alright. I'll see what I can do about getting you out of here as fast as you're able. And Sparks?"

***

Between Siobhan and the nurse with attitude the officer lifts his hands in defeat "Fine! But I'm keeping my eyes on him and you" though it was more of a thrat then a warning as the officer stalk away to talk with some of the other patients that may have been involved. Shaking her head the nurse states "That man has a problem." turning back to Siobhan "No the locker not in the room, but I will get that brought over right Hon." As such the nurse walks away to fetch these valubles and the doctor dosn't say much and elects to move onto other patients that might need him at the moment.

"More along the lines of me losing my temper. I probably should of stayed out of it." Though when Sparks is mentioned he takes a whole new level of cold as his hand grips and crushes the hand rail in another spot "…they have him in a cage. Or so Nurse Dian tells me. He probably being kept by the rest of my things" though he wasn't completly sure. Glancing around he growls out "…I hate…being trapped"

***

'Siobhan' ignores the officer as he stalks off, then smiles again to the nurse. "Thank you again. And if at all possible, could you also bring me the pygmy marmoset that was with him? He's documented and vaccinated. But much like my cousin, isn't a fan of being cooped up." She presents herself as much more pleasant than she did to the officer. Know your audience, and all that.

In the room, Ember nods her understanding. "I'm seeing what I can do about getting everything back, Sparks included. The Doctor mentioned keeping you here overnight for observation, but since you're not in custody you can check yourself out."

***

Terrocks nods with some relief "I'm getting the hell out of here." He sits up but he more then winces in pain. The blanket had fallon away and his entire torso was bandaged up. "Man they don't make gun like these used to." He rubs his stomech and grumbles, he apparently wasn't wearing one of those hospital gawns, they didn't exactly make them his size. Shaking his head he growls "Taking care of the store going to be a real pain" he offers a laugh that is somewhat hollow. Meanwhile the trio of people that were outside have all disbanded to do various duties. The cop stayed nearby being the suspcious one he is, but the nurse has gone off to fetch Terrock belongings.

***

'Siobhan' remains out in the hallway to wait for the nurse's return. And to keep an eye on the gung ho cop, of course. Ember holds up a hand as Terrock tries to get out of the bed, "Let's at least wait until the nurse bring your stuff before you go and undo all the patch work they've already done." She chuckles with the comment about the store, "Well, if you need an extra set of hands." She holds up her hands and they start to sprout a few extras for a moment before she returns them to normal. "Or six or seven. As needed." She shrugs and looks out the window, "Not like I've got anything pressing going on. You'll have to give me pointers, though. Not like I've had a job before."

***

Terrock raises an eyebrow "How old are you? I've had a job since before I was 12. Then again it WAS 1833 at the time" He nodes and tries to stay still somewhat, which is fairly hard for him to do. "But help would be apprecaited. This didn't happen at the most oppertune time. I having a door replaced, and rabbits are supposed to be arriving soon, along with able kittens." He rubs his beard stressed but stops. His ears twitch and he actualy smiles.

For outside the door the Chittering of a pygmy Marmoset can be heard. The nurse was strolling down, Terrock clothes and amulet set along side a rather small cage (they weren't an animal hospital after all). She walks up to Sionbha and says to her "If you can, please try to make sure your 'cousin' doesn't work to hard child. He might be strong, but those bullets really do a number on him. Oh and let your twin in there know having a job is a wonderful thing" she offers Siobhan a knowing wink before continuing on "Did you bring him any extra clothes, his current ones are full of holes"

***

'Siobhan' gives the nurse a sharp look, "What are you talking about? I mean, yes we'll keep him from working too hard." The confusion she's feeling at the moment is hard to keep from her expression as she accepts Sparks' cage and the rest of the items. She puts her fingers through the cage so she can offer Sparks a quick scratch.

In the room, Ember nods to Terrock. "Sounds like it'll be interesting work. Count me in." She holds up a hand and heads out to join herself and pick up some of Terrock's belongings. "Thank you, Nurse. I think our cousin will want to be checking himself out once we get him covered up." She holds up the clothes and shrugs, "I'm afraid these will have to do for now. I came here straight. Didn't think to pick him up anything."

***

The nurse simply offers Siobhan a simple grin before turning to Ember "Very well, I'll get the paper work cleared up, and he should be ready to come out. Hopefully they don't try to make him go through the whole wheelchair out the hospital policy" She turns and heads for the desk to get that started. Sparks though was not having any scracthes and almost bites Siobhan. Sparks was litterly going ape in the cage jumping from wall to wall which made people glance at them every now and again. And Terrock calls from the back "Don't worry Sparks, I'm here!"

***

Ember takes the items from her 'twin'. Nothing really for Sparks to bite into with fingers made of light. To keep up appearances, 'Siobhan' gives a quick wave, "I'll get a cab. Meet you outside." She heads down the stairs and is gone between one flight and the next. Ember brings Sparks and the rest of Terrock's stuff into the room and sets it down on the bed before opening the cage and keeping her fingers clear. "There you go, tiny bud." She holds out Terrock's shirt, or what's left of it. "Let's get you as covered as we can. I can take care of making it look more intact once we're out of sight."

***

Sparks almost flies out the cage and over to Terrock chittering and chattering wildly. Without his amulet Terrock couldn't make out Sparks was saying completly. Without much of a word he encloses his fist around sparks like a cup and gently rubs the scared monkey belly despite it biting him. "It's alright, I'm here, no one going to hurt you". Though at Ember words he nods and slowly get out of bed. But stops, he wasn't exactly wearing clothes "Errr…Ember…not that I have any problem being naked…but it a bit improper for a lady. So Mabey wait outside?"

***

Ember chuckles, digging through the stack to find the amulet, which she then hands over to Terrock. "Might need this so Sparks can scold you properly." When he stops and gives her the 'wait outside' bit she shrugs but nods agreement. "That sort of thing never mattered to me even before I lost my body. But yeah, I can wait outside. Give a shout if you need help not popping your stitches though, yeah?"

***

Terrock nods and put on his Talismen. He get this blank far away stare for a moment before he shakes his head off and looks around his ears twitching before he looks to Sparks. "Oh come on! It not like…but..bah!" He grumbles at the tiny Monkey who now sits calmly on his shoulder. But upon hearing Ember's whole 'dosn't really worry her' bit he nods "Then..I guess it does not matter much" He clamber out of bed slowly and walks over to the rest of his clothes. He puts on his briefs as he says to Sparks "Get the door?" Spark who was still chittering angrily at Terrock close the door pushing on it like it was a giant log. Soon enough, considering he had to move slowly for to keep the stiches in place he was putting his pants on "How soon do you think you can work? How many hours, what days and how much are you expecting to be payed?" Cold and uncareing like a common buisness man.

***

Ember helps Sparks shut the door, then uses bits of light from the windows to aid Terrock in getting his shirt on once he's got his pants on. "I can start right now if you want. I've been staying with Cara lately, trying to help her with the last stretch of her pregnancy. So I'm in the City. And as you see, I can split myself off into multiples so long as they're not too far apart." She grins and shrugs, checking outside the door briefly, then splintering herself into a half dozen mirror images for a few seconds before returning to her 'normal, solid' self. "The rest of it can work itself out."

***

Terrock watches Ember fracture herself and come back togeather "….try not to do that around the animals, you might confuse the younger ones" but none the less he gives a nod of approval. He accepts the help from the light in getting his shirt on. The shirt is actualy smaller then it should be being form fitting on the giant. He puts on his tie tightning it to a strangling like condition, but he is used to it. He checks himself in the mirror noting the bullet holes "Bet the coat of my blazor has just as many holes" Sparks begins grooming Terrock hair and beard and he chuckles and glances into the Mirror "Hmmm. Very now. Does 13.50 an hour sound reasonble to you? I won't be expecting you to do night duties, since your friend…Cara if I recall the name correctly, should be your priority" He says that in a careing way.

***

"Sounds very reasonable to me, yes." Ember picks up the cage, closes it, and puts an illusionary version of unhappy Sparks inside of it. "I'll follow your lead on how to work with the animals. I've always been more of a mechcanics kind of girl, but never hurts to do new things." She nods about Cara, "Yeah… it's not an easy thing for her. I can't say much because it's hers to talk about, but it's more than the usual difficulties." She looks out the door again to once more make sure the cop isn't loitering around. "The nurse said she'd have the release paperwork ready. Sparks might want to find a good hiding spot until we're back outside, though."

***

Terrock nods and put on his jacket and buttons it up. Sparks take to hiding inside the coat itself causing Terrock to chuckle. "Stay still down there." Sparks settles and Terrock heads over to the door and offer Ember the way out "By your lead My Lady" he says dropping the Cara conversation "As far as animals go…well I am a monster I can help you with that". The police officer is looking at them and is making his way towards them.

Ember smiles to Terrock and smiles as he puts on the gallant face at the door. "Sounds good to me." She sees the cop coming over and puts a hand up in a 'stop right there' gesture before he gets closer than a dozen feet away. "Don't even try. My sister already told you, the Nurse told you, and now I'm telling you: My cousin was a victim in the attack. He is not a suspect, nor is he under arrest." She pauses for effect and to make certain the officer's attention is on her. She isn't using any tricks of illusion to make herself seem more capable. Just her natural force of personality and all the posture and 'upper class' poise her mother and grandmother pressed into her as a girl. "You've badgered him long enough. If he can think of anything that can help you find the actual criminals in all this, he will most certainly contact your precinct. But now we are taking him home so he can rest and recover. Don't make me take this into the realm of legal threats, please." She's a fairly tiny wisp of a girl, and she's doing the best roadblock impression she can so that Terrock can get out of here and back into the open air. Or, well, as much as such a thing exists in the city.

***

Well for a tiny wisp of a girl, she was doing one hell of a good job. The officer scowls angrily but at the threat of legal action says nothing more except "Good Day". Terrock himself was standing behind Ember with his own 'upper class gentleman pose' and his sheer bulk and stone cold face was more then enough to seal the deal Ember has done. And with that he leads Ember away tucking his talismen into his jacket. When they do reach the outside Terrock takes the biggest breath of air he could making his muscles buldge under his clothes before wince from his injuries

***

Ember drops the stern act once they're on the way out. And on the way outside she slowly 'fills in' the holes in Terrock's clothing with enough illusion to make them look mostly intact. Still rough in an 'I just got out of the hospital' kind of way, but no visible bullet holes at least. She pats Terrock on the back (well, as high as she can reach on it at least) when he winces, "Let's get you home, get your feet up and something warm and soothing into your belly. Then you can start telling me how to do the work around there, okay?" She chuckles quietly to herself. A text from a wounded friend as her first resume. Gotta chuckle sometimes.

***

He leads them to his store avoiding the street where the robbery took place "Well I will stick with raw meat. I am sure I have some bull's hearts stored away. And of cours some regular food for you" Sparks pops back up on his shoulder and listens as he explains to Ember some of the various duties, which is many considering it is the 'busy season'. Though he take it easy at least on the walk home
