Title: Homecomings Can Also be Easy

For someone who can move at lightspeed and doesn't have a stomach anymore, Ember Reynolds (formerly 'Aura') could swear she's had the entire migratory population of monarch butterflies in her stomach over the week it's taken her to make her way back up to the Xavier Institute to take Ms. Frost up on her invitation to return. It's not that she's nervous. That would be too mild of a word.

So… one instant there's no one on the walkway up to the porch, the next instant there's a brightly glowing energy form in the shape of a short woman, and then the instant after that the energy looks like a petite brunette in a faded letterman's jacket, jeans and work boots. She walks up the steps and rings the doorbell, then waits. What can go wrong, right?

***

Boris happened to be in the foyer when the door bell rang. If the door was ringing, and security wasn't going off, it was a safe bet it was perfectly safe to open the door. But even so, the nervous mutant rumbling was always present (though luckly extreamly light since he gotten better control… for now). He opens the door to look up at Ember. The rather odd looking mutant short 4ft form takes up the door way as his whiskers quiver "Errrm… helloz. Kin AH help sie?" he asks, his german accent comming in thick and strong. He didn't seem to bother by the cold at the moment

***

Rogue is in the main foyer of the school taking down the large Christmas tree that was put up there for the holidays. "Someone's gotta do it, even if its the saddest thing in the world t'do." She told some of the kids who were just standing around watching her as she floated around the tree, hovering near the top of the ten-foot-tall festive display pulling ornaments off branches that she'd put up on it a little over a month ago. "Christmas is over, which means my brithday is around the corner… which means I'm gonna be an old grandma in no time flat! How great." she looked over to see Boris answering the front doors. "Pizza delivery, I bet… nevah ends around here."

***

When the door opens, Ember pauses as she was expecting to look up at whoever opened it. That was almost always the case when she was here before. Looking down at someone shorter than herself is a novelty even when her size these days is just a trick of the light. "Oh, ah… hello. I was… I mean, um…" Then she spots Rogue flitting about the tree in the foyer. "Oh! Hello again. Been a long time." She hesitates for a few seconds, then remembers some basic manners and speaks to Boris. "I'm Ember. I used to live here."

***

Boris shuffles aside so Rogue can look and see, to confirm what it was that Ember said. After all, for all he knows she might be lieing or something, but he introduces himself none the lesss "AH be Boris Breitbarth! Ah plezare ta meet sie!" he exclaims. His tail thumps the ground giving a rythmatic thumping sound as he calls over to Rogue "Eh Rogie, vis here be yer friend, aye?" his voice booms out

***

The school was back in fully swing for the second half of the school year, thought it was late in the weekday there were still a number of students visible coming and coming as well as those watching Rogue take ornaments off of the topmost part of the tree, one of them now deciding to help and removing some from down below to place in the set-aside boxes.

Anna-Marie looked over toward the main archway of the front doors and she spotted the familar face. "Ember! Heya." She said with a smile as she flew toward the doorway, landed and walked briskly to stand near Boris, giving the dwarf a smile. "She's chool, Bouncer, ya can let her in." She told the student with a grin and looked back to Ember. "Whats shakin'? Haven't seen ya in like a year…" She asked.

***

Ember smiles to Rogue as she comes flying down towards the door, still plenty of nervous evident in the expression. "Well, after one too many missteps and then Scott blowing up at me I decided it was time I went walkabout." she steps in through the door when Rogue says it's alright. Well, not so much steps in as goes from outside the door to inside and behind Rogue and Boris with no indication that she ever actually crossed the space physically. "Got back on New Year's Eve and ran into an Emma Frost who invited me to come back about the same time as some sentinels decided to crash the Times Square party." She shrugs a shoulder, "She said I should come right over, but… wasn't sure what kind of welcome I'd get. And it's good to meet you, Boris."

***

Sentinels….oi. Boris tail stops thumping, and the ground starts quaking. At least it wasn't as bad as it usualy was, though a few ornament were now falling off the christmas tree, with students scrambling to catch them before they hit the ground. Boris closes the door muttering several german curses involving sentinels. He shakes himself off the quaking soon subsiding and turns to see the other kids looking at him "….errrr…. sorriez?" All is forgiven quickly, as like amny student before, folks grow accostume to the quirks and …. havocs that occure here. Boris looks to EMber still seeming nervous (as evident by the still stronger than average quaking) "Et were nice to meet sie az wellz!" before he waddles on over to help pick up anything that didn't require being gentle

***

Rogue turned around when Ember fluttered inside and she smiled at her. "I don't think nobody minds ya being here." She said. "We've had a lot of turnover lately, new students comin' in and such… The Senior class last year was pretty big too, so there's a lotta familiar faces gone from these hallways lately." She put her hands into her gray hoodie's side pockets and looked around. "I haven't seen Emma for a couple'a days, but she's around here somewhere, I figure… Probably layin' down the law somewhere." Rogue glanced over at Boris and smiled at him, happy to see he was recovered from his stabbing!

***

When ornaments begin to fall to the ground and the scramble begins, Ember's human form fades to near-transparency and a field of warm light extends from her lower half towards the tree like the train of an elaborate wedding dress, taking shape over the floor like soft cotton to soften the fall of anything not caught by someone else. "Whoops! Sorry, Boris. Didn't mean to bring up a sensitive subject." Then she nods as she listens to Rogue, "I couldn't be sure, what with Scott kicking me out and Drake deciding that I was almost certainly going to become the next big mutant villain." She shrugs this off in light of the smiles and welcome she's received tonight. "Wouldn't surprise me, given how Emma seemed to be when I met her that night. Very… very." She doesn't seem too put off by having fewer familiar faces around. Just means fewer chances of getting bit in the ass, right? "And new faces aren't a problem for me. After the, well… 'walking tour' I've been on most of the past year, /any/ faces are a welcome change."

***

Boris jumps a bit startled, but than just seem fashionated by Embers abilities. A few of the kids poke at the cotten, curiouse. While Mutants may be Homo Superior… at the core they are still human, and humans are curiouse "Vell! Vat iz helpfall abiliteh!" Boris exclaims. ANd when Ember aplogies, Boris turns slightly red faced embarressed "Et's nit ah sensitive topick!" he grumbles embarressed as he picks up a heavy box. A few kids pick up the more delicate boxes while others pick ornamanates from Embers cushioning and putting them in other boxes. The tree will be down soon enough. "Errr… Rogue! Vere does dey tree goes. Sie know?" he wonders

***

Rogue hung her favorite ornaments at the top of the treet where (most) students couldn't reach them and she'd always hung them up as secure as any could possibly be hung on a tree, but… she'd already removed them and put them away, so she wasn't too worried. "Yeah… Drake's not with us anymore either. He moved back to California." She left it at that and looked over to Boris with a small grin. "There's that Goat Farm down the road a bit… the Miles place with the white fence and the goat statues outfront of its drive? I was gonna take the tree there tonight, fly it out there and leave it. They take in the trees to feed their goats."

***

Once all the in-danger ornaments are clear, the blanket of energy returns back to Ember's core. For a few seconds as the energy is reclaimed, her human-looking form is replaced by what looks for all purposes like a miniature sun complete with active corona. Then that reshapes back into the female energy shape which gets Ember's appearance wrapped around it again. "Well I hope he does alright back there," is all she says about Drake, although at first her voice emerges without the benefit of moving lips. Those come later as she synchs things up again. She listens to the information about the goat farm where they feed them pine trees with a chuckle. "Never boring around here, for sure."

***

Boris blinks "Oh! I waz goink ta help pit et awaiez, bit…. rather nit be a puffball again" refferring to his winter clothes, which litterly has him looking like a puffball to hide all of his visible mutations. Many folks shield their eyes while Emeber reforms. "Oh… and do vey sell goat milk? Havenea had dat since commink from vee mothah country!" he exclaims excited at the prospect. Clearly he was taking Rogue seriously as he hauls the last heavy box away

***

Rogue looked over at Ember as she took a few steps toward the tree which just had the lights remaining on it now. "Its been a year for the record books, if I do say so myself." She smiled at the girl softly then. "Its good to see ya though. And I'm sure Scott's not cross 'bout whatevah happened back then. I don't even really remembah any of it myself." She flashed a light grin and regarded Boris. "I think they do sell that, yep… is it any good?" She asked the student. "And are you supposed t'be doing heavy liftin, Mistah?" She interrogated him, knowing his wounds were pretty serious.

***

Ember walks towards the tree alongside Rogue, then gives up the appearance of staying on the ground and floats up into the air, "I'll have to get the stories and gossip that I missed, then." She smiles and nods towards the tree, "Want help getting the lights down?" Then she chuckles at Rogue's comment about what all happened before she left. "Guess that'll teach me to worry about things out of proportion to reality."

***

Boris blinks and grumbles "Nit allowed ta pick anydink up ovar 200 poundz" Which ment no picking up the tree, working with alot of metal, moving solid oak desk, etc. As it stood Boris was despite being a nervous person, quite stubborn and single minded at the worst of times. "Donnea worry Marie, ain't doing bad. ANd yez et does taste good. Makes sie strong" flexes holding the heavy box in one arm before grunting and moving along

***

"What if I'm already strong." Rogue replied to Boris with a sly grin on her lips before she looked back at Ember. "Hey… I ain't gonna turn down some help with that, not many mutants around here got the Up Up And Away powah like me'n you got, so we gotta tag team this kinda junk." She told Ember with more grins. "I'm gonna run these boxes up to the attic level though, cause these ones got the good ornaments in them and I know that stuff around this school loves to get smashed…" She moved toward the boxes with the antique ornaments from Charles' childhood and picked them all up in a big armload like they weighed nothing at all.
