Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Pepper lived a quiet life as a child. With a Lawyer and a Doctor as parents, she was raised to be focused and driven to her goals. In school she was studious and while she had friends, she was more of a homebody than someone that went and 'hung out' all the time. Though like all teenagers, she had her rebellious period during High School, though thankfully short lived.
.
Graduating High School at 17, a year ahead of her peers, she entered into college the following year before she turned 18. There, she was studious and hard working, following her passion for Business and gaining her degree. It was then that she went to work for Stark Enterprises in the Secretarial pool and accounting. And it was here that her life's story really began.
.
While only working at Stark Enterprises for a few months, Pepper noticed an error in one of the accounting reports. Small errors are generally easily fixed, but this particular one could cost the company thousands of dollars. Due to the critical error, she rushed to Tony's office to bring him the news. At first, she was stopped by the bodyguards that simply laughed at her, and in her frustration attempted to force her way past them. The commotion escalated to the point of them threatening her with Pepper spray and it was then that Tony finally took notice. Curious, she was admitted into his office and after the situation was explained, he hired her as his personal secretary on the spot. Also, because of the whole Pepper spray ordeal, he gave that to her as a nickname. It stuck with her ever since.
.
Years were spent as his secretary and she got to the point that her entire life revolved around him and the company. While he was more aloof, she helped keep things running while still managing him and his eccentric ways. That in itself was a full time job.
.
While he was in Afghanistan for the Jericho Missile demonstrations, is when things went for a turn yet again. Pepper remained in the States to continue to run things on the administrative side in his absence, and when he was kidnapped, it felt like her worst fears were coming to reality. While they did as much as they could on their end, including Pepper fighting with the US Embassies in the nearby area and outlying countries to try and coordinate some way to find her boss, she felt helpless. While she knew that she had some feelings for Tony and kept them at bay, it wasn't until now that she realized that deep down, she really loved him. This, she tried to bury even deeper.
.
Once Tony escaped and returned to the States, she knew that on some level he had changed some. Having her dig into the shipping records of the weapons they manufactured drew even more startling revelations. Tony went on a spree of wanting to destroy the weapons used by terrorists in the Middle East, and it was pushed to a breaking point for Pepper that she nearly walked out on him. She had spent years at his side, but she was not about to stand there and watch him kill himself in these endeavors. Regardless, when he asked for her help, she remained. As it turns out, Obadiah Stane, someone that she had trusted given that he was an old friend and colleague of Howard Stark before his passing, was not quite the man they thought he was.
.
When the truth was ousted and Obadiah was confronted, Pepper was swept up into the final battle between him and Tony. It was her that overloaded the massive Arc Reactor that ultimately killed Obadiah and saved Tony's life by recharging his Mark I Reactor. The Press Conferences that were to follow certainly changed the tempo of their relationship and Pepper had a whole new venue to her work she now had to deal with. Now not only managing Tony the playboy CEO, but now Tony the celebrity 'hero' Iron Man.
.
In the following months, with Tony's behavior growingly reckless, Pepper's concern grew. He didn't tell her what was really going on. Even more so, she was floored when all of a sudden, after a confrontation of her trying to snap some sense back into Tony to be the CEO he is supposed to be, he turned the company over to her. CEO Pepper Potts, running the company and basically doing what she was before, but now with a shiny new title. Natalie Rushman joined the close staff to herself and Tony, pulling her from Legal to help as secretary to both herself and Tony. Though she grew increasingly suspicious with Tony's behavior only getting worse and far beyond his usual eccentricities the more Rushman was around. It came to the point that she blamed Natalie for it all, unknowing of what was really going on.
.
After some dealings with Justin Hammer, among others, it turns out that Hammer's drones were to be the highlight of the upcoming Expo. Despite her dislike of the idea, and the man himself, Pepper made her appearance as Stark Industries' CEO. Things quickly went haywire during the revealing of the drones, and as they began to go haywire, Potts jumped into action, heading to the security area behind the stage to find out what was going on. During this confrontation, as Rhodes (or War Machine), helps Tony deal with the drones, she finally learned that Tony was actually dying. In the end, Whiplash was defeated and Justin Hammer was arrested. Though it wasn't without Iron Man having to save Pepper's life as the drones would have killed her in the explosions if Tony was just a second later than he was.
.
After this, Pepper briefly quit her position as CEO, shaken at nearly being killed herself, but watching, yet again, first hand at Tony fighting for his own life while trying to save everyone else. It was overwhelming. Though this was short lived. A month later, she returned to Tony's employ, and eventually rose back to her previous position as CEO to better help in taking care of the company while he handled his own business with the Avengers, being Iron Man, and still being the genius inventor he is.
.
Having stepped back into her position, Pepper took a conference tour of Europe that would keep her away for a few months. Meet new business partners, make new deals, offer new demonstrations of some of their tech… get them back in the game as one of the world's leading industries in technology. Having only two stops left, perhaps a week or two left in Europe, she finds out through the media at Tony Stark's sudden death.
.
Pepper's heart absolutely shattered at hearing this news. She was devastated. She went quiet in her hotel room trying to pull herself together and trying to deal with it from the perspective as the CEO - the press conferences, answering the difficult questions, etc… - and trying to hold back her grief for later. Though she learned the truth when Tony called her on the way to the airport. She gave him her room number and hotel location where she was in France at the time. Now, she was torn between relieved, how horribly hurt she was, and incredibly angry.
.
When he arrived, Pepper tore into him, though after learning the real reason behind it, her ire softened considerably. The two spent the evening talking, and despite her resistance in the past and hiding it, their true feelings for one another came out. Spurring yet another new chapter of her life, she returned to the States a couple of weeks later. There is no telling what is in store for her now.
